Why Your Happy Life Is an Inside Job: If You Do Not Take Care of Yourself, No One Else Will
Did you know that 55 % of American workers claim to be unhappy in their job? That is the latest statistic that the Conference Board, Inc. has reported, and though it is sad, it can definitely be true. Unfortunately, many people feel like they are never destined for a happy life.
The day-to-day stresses can get to them and overshadow the good things that they are experiencing. In fact, if you have ever felt like this you can be sure that you are not alone. Thankfully, you can take your destiny into your own hands so that you can do something about it.
The truth is that a happy life is within your grasp. They key is to focus on finding the positives in your personal life, job, and relationships. So how do you go about doing that?
The first thing that you must do to attain your happy life is to honor yourself. Many people do not put themselves high on the priority list. You are not alone if you tend to find yourself at the bottom of your own priority list.
Generally people put themselves last which only serves to wear them down and make them feel less efficient and energetic in their job and life. You need to put yourself high on your priority list, and ideally, you want to be sitting comfortably in the number one spot.
If you do not take care of yourself, no one else will. This does not mean that you need to be selfish, but you do want to be sure that you pay careful attention to your needs so that you can meet them adequately.
Often on the job, you may find yourself loosing focus of your happy life because you get bogged down with the negative aspects of your day. While this is all too common, it will do nothing to help you improve your overall quality of life.
You have no control over those around you and their choices, but if you allow yourself to get angry, you will only increase your stress level. You need to find your way toward being able to forgive those around you for their shortcomings. By finding a way to forgive you are able to alleviate that unnecessary stress from your life.
A wonderful way to pave the way toward your happy life especially on the job is to take control of your destiny. Rather than simply letting things happen to you, take the time to picture what you want your future years to hold. Set goals for yourself and determine what you need to do to attain those goals.
Having a framework toward success will not only help you maneuver your way through life, but it will also give you the structure that you may be longing for. Of course, you want to be realistic, but there is nothing wrong with dreaming as long as you take the time to determine how to make those dreams become a reality.
One of the best ways to focus on creating your happy life for yourself is to take the focus off yourself. In our society it is common to be very egocentric. While this may be common, it does not necessarily mean that it is a good thing. By being self centered you can find yourself getting bogged down in the negatives of your life so much so that you forget about the good that you have going on.
Try focusing on someone else so that you are able to take a look at your own life through a different lens. By learning about the hardships that others face, you may be able to appreciate your own circumstances more. You will feel good for helping those who are less fortunate than you are.
You must also learn to accept setbacks gracefully. Life is not simple, and it is not without mistakes. A happy life is one that is messy and full of learning opportunities, which is all that mistakes are. Things are not always going to go easily, and the sooner that you come to terms with that the better.
No job will be perfect, no relationship will function without work, and no day will be without an occasional challenge. If you can learn to accept these "setbacks" as opportunities to learn and persevere, you will be on the road to happiness. Thinking of life as an adventure rather than a chore will help you take these challenges in stride.
While there is no guarantee that you will always have your happy life, you can always have control of it. You have the power and the resources to take your day from negative to positive.
By honoring yourself, forgiving those around you, taking control of your destiny, and widening your focus you will be able to make substantial changes in your circumstances.
These changes are not always easy to make, and they are not always made quickly. You must trust yourself and find the positive in all that you are presented with in life. If you are able to do this than you will quickly find yourself leading a happier life in no time!
